Herbie Hancock, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Kurt Elling & More to Headline 2024 International Jazz Day in Tangier, Morocco

Legendary jazz pianist Herbie Hancock, along with esteemed artists Dee Dee Bridgewater, Kurt Elling, Marcus Miller, and Shemekia Copeland, will headline the 2024 International Jazz Day in Tangier, Morocco. This historic event, the first of its kind on the African continent, promises a four-day celebration of jazz culture and collaboration.

Presented in partnership with the Ministry of Culture of Morocco and the city of Tangier, the festivities will kick off on April 27 and culminate with the All-Star Global Concert on April 30. Led by UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Herbie Hancock and music director John Beasley, the concert will feature an eclectic lineup of international talent, including Claudia Acuña, Ambrose Akinmusire, Richard Bona, and Melody Gardot, among others.

The All-Star Global Concert, to be held at the new Palace of Arts and Culture, will be broadcast worldwide via YouTube, Facebook, the United Nations, and UNESCO, reaching audiences in over 190 countries. In addition to the concert, a series of educational programs will explore the rich jazz legacy of Tangier, including its connections to Gnawa music and renowned artists like Randy Weston and Josephine Baker.

Established by UNESCO in 2011, International Jazz Day is a global celebration of jazz music and its cultural significance. Organized by the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz, the event aims to promote intercultural dialogue and cooperation through the universal language of music.
